EMO’s music foundation courses provide students with relevant skills and knowledge and a firm grounding in music history and theory. The teaching of music history and theory progresses alongside the student’s instrumental studies and is integrated with courses in chamber music and / or piano accompaniment. At EMO, the teaching of music history and theory and the grading of instrumental performance exams adhere to subject-specific guidelines set out by SML, the Association of Finnish Music Schools. History and theory modules can last either one or two years at the discretion of the individual teacher. Students receive between 45-90 minutes of instruction per week.
